Global power competition: Mideast’ implication

A few years ago, when Joe Biden was Barack Obama’s understudy in preparation for his own Presidency, their administration announced a “pivot” from the Middle East to the Far East, especially with a view to China as the main global competitor with the United States. There has been some delay, as Daesh had to be crushed and Iran remained an active foreign policy problem due to President Trump’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal with it, but now the move away from the Mideast is back, and this time it may hold. What does that mean for American, Russian and Chinese moves in the region? Will France return to its historic role in Lebanon? How are Turkey and Iran going to respond to new realities? And most crucial for us here, what does it portend for Israel?
