Maritime Movements, Troubles and Threats

The Israel Navy Ship “Drakon”, or Dragon, entered the port of Haifa last week as the newest and most potent asset in the Israeli submarine fleet, which is albeit a mere squadron when compared to some major navies, which includes Turkey. The Drakon’s arrival signals a new focus on maritime challenges, from the Mediterranean to Bab-el-Mandeb to Hormuz and beyond. Nations and markets used to take the free movement of vessels and goods through seas and choke points for granted, but no more. This activity has now become very risky and costly, thanks to the Iranians and Houthis, with the possibility of a Turkish threat also now lurking on the horizon.
